Improvised Jane Austen (2019 Best Improv/Sketch Troup, The Chicago Reader & PerformINK’s critics choice) tells a tale, on the spot, in the style of the most beloved 19th century authoress. The cast is entirely female, non-binary, & non-conforming identified folk. Audiences can expect to laugh heartily, be wooed to tears, and be made to think on how much, and how little, has changed in two hundred plus years. Janice is an ensemble member of Starship Edsel: An Improvised Star Trek Satire with Otherworld Theatre. This show will return to Second City in April 2026!
Starship Edsel is a Star Trek inspired farce set aboard the Federation Starship Edsel towards the end of the 24th century. The Edsel is a cruiser, Edsel class (the only one), largely regarded as a failure in ship design. Somehow, serious flaws in architecture and engineering were not caught until the prototype ship was completed. From its launch, it has been plagued with mechanical and operational problems that have played havoc with its fitness and combat-readiness, to the point where it became the butt of jokes throughout Starfleet.
Janice Rumschlag (she/her/hers) is your quirky, energetic, smart AF best-friend (who may secretly love wearing tiaras and playing with Barbies as an adult...). She's an actress, improviser, and some-times singer. Janice draws inspiration for her characters from strong, independent, smart, badass women (past and present!).
She relocated to the Bay Area from 2014 -2019, however the siren song of Chicago's innovative store-front theatre and improv comedy scene brought her back home to the Windy City just in time for the pandemic in early 2020.
